Jon Hamm to Star In and Produce Miramax’s Modern Day Take on FLETCH Mystery Novel
Film Adaptation of Gregory Mcdonald’s 1970s Mystery Novels to be directed by SUPERBAD’s Greg Mottola
It was announced today that Miramax and Jon Hamm are behind the latest film adaptation of the popular 1970s mystery novels, FLETCH, created by Gregory Mcdonald. Hamm (MAD MEN, BABY DRIVER, BRIDESMAIDS, THE TOWN) will produce alongside manager/producer Connie Tavel and is attached to star as I.M.Fletcher, the brazen investigative reporter last characterized by Chevy Chase in the 1985 neo-noir comedy of the same name. Acclaimed director Greg Mottola, best known for his work on comedic hits such as SUPERBAD, ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT, and ADVENTURELAND is set to direct. Zev Borow of LETHAL WEAPON is the film’s screenwriter.
The film adaptation is based on the second book in the Fletch series, Confess, Fletch. In a mysterious chain of wild events, Fletch finds himself in the middle of multiple murders- one of which pins him as a prime suspect. While on a quest to prove his innocence, Fletch is tasked with finding his fiancée’s stolen art collection, the only inheritance she’s acquired after her father goes missing and is presumed dead.
“Fletch’s duration over audiences- whether told on paper or the big screen- entertains every type of audience and we could not be more thrilled to see what twenty-first century twist these artists create,” says Miramax CEO Bill Block.
"Producing this film with Jon has been a long-time dream of mine and with Zev and Greg on board to write and direct, I really believe that this will be an exciting and modern reimagining of this beloved character,” says Connie Tavel.
Hamm is repped by CAA, Forward Entertainment, and attorney David Weber and Mottola is repped by UTA. Greg Mcdonald is repped by David List, who is also an EP for the film.
