With Office Space, writer-director Mike Judge earned the undying admiration of white-collar drones everywhere. His latest film, the nincompoop noir Extract, also takes place in the world of labor?specifically a flavoring factory in Texas. This time, however, the hero (played by Jason Bateman) is the boss. "When Beavis and Butt-Head became successful, it was the first time I'd ever had people working for me," says Judge, calling from his home in Austin. "I suddenly went from having no employees to a staff of 80. The earlier movie is definitely on the side of the desk jockeys; this one is more sympathetic to the guy running things."
